Senior Mechanical Engineer – Building Services Perry Consulting Engineers | Melbourne Perry Consulting Engineers is a growing Melbourne-based building services consultancy delivering coordinated Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic and Fire engineering across education, healthcare, aged care, community, commercial and national quick service restaurant projects.
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Victorian Building Authority (VBA) Registered who enjoys hands‑on involvement in projects and wants to play a leadership role within a smaller consultancy where good engineering and practical design outcomes matter.
This role offers the opportunity to work directly with Directors, run projects, mentor junior engineers and help shape how projects are delivered.
The Opportunity This is a senior, hands‑on position where you will take responsibility for mechanical services design from concept through to construction, working closely with clients, architects, builders and the broader consultant team.
You will play a key role in delivering coordinated, practical building services solutions while supporting the development of junior engineers within the team.
Key Responsibilities
Design and document HVAC systems in accordance with NCC and relevant Australian Standards
Review and sign off mechanical designs as a Registered Practitioner (Mechanical)
Liaise with architects, builders and consultants to ensure coordinated design outcomes
Prepare mechanical reports, calculations and specifications
Participate in design meetings and undertake site inspections during construction
Mentor and provide technical support to junior engineers
Complete integrated building services design
Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Registered Building Practitioner (Mechanical) – VBA, or eligible to obtain registration
8+ years’ experience in building services mechanical design
Strong understanding of NCC, Section J, AS 1668, AS/NZS 3666 and related standards
Experience using AutoCAD and/or Revit
Strong communication and coordination skills
Practical, solutions-focused engineering approach
