The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is Tasmania's largest hospital and provides tertiary‐level surgical services to the community. Perioperative Services at RHH delivers both elective and 24‐hour emergency surgery across a wide range of specialties, supporting statewide referral services including cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, major trauma, and burns. The Theatre team works collaboratively across the Operating Theatre Suite, Perioperative Unit, Day Procedure Unit, and Recovery areas to ensure safe, timely, and high‐quality surgical care. As part of the Department of Health, the team is committed to patient‐centred care, infection prevention, and supporting positive health outcomes for patients, staff, and the wider community.

The Role:

The Theatre Support Officer provides essential operational and technical support within the Operating Theatre environment. The role is responsible for preparing operating rooms, supporting the safe use of specialised equipment, assisting with patient movement and positioning, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness, infection control, and workplace safety. Working closely with nursing, medical, and allied health staff, the Theatre Support Officer contributes to the smooth flow of perioperative services and supports safe and dignified care for patients throughout their surgical journey.

You will need:

* Demonstrated ability to safely assist with patient handling, movement, and positioning in a perioperative environment, in line with WH&S requirements.
* Sound communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast‐paced, high‐pressure setting.
* Knowledge, or the ability to develop knowledge, of theatre equipment, infection prevention and control, and emergency procedures relevant to perioperative practice.

Details of appointment:

Multiple fixed‐term, casual, shift worker positions, working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months.

Salary:

$67,193 to $72,126 pro rata per annum, plus a 12% superannuation contribution. Plus 25% casual loading – equivalent of $42.34 to $45.45. Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.

Desirable qualifications:

* Holds or is working towards a Certificate III or IV in Operating Theatre Technical Support through a nationally accredited training provider.
