About the role
Reporting to the National Operations and Trading Manager, the VIC State Manager will be responsible for executing the company's strategic goals related to profitable trading of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals. This role is P&L accountable, overseeing trading, supply chain, and safe operations.
The role involves managing and enhancing outcomes by securing profitable intake through an appropriate collection footprint and trading workforce. It ensures the business has the necessary processing capabilities to provide a positive customer experience, leveraging technology, capable personnel, and capital investments to create a safe, cost-effective operation. The position also focuses on fostering high-growth activities in the regions and collaborates with the Australian lead team to optimize performance and improvements.
Your responsibilities include:
• Developing and implementing a 3-year business plan aligned with strategic imperatives
• Leading negotiations for major supply contracts and approving all ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal supply agreements with small and medium suppliers within the company's delegated authority
• Developing strategies to defend and grow current business
• Setting standards of personal behavior to promote effective relationships and drive discretionary effort through good people practices
• Applying business systems effectively to improve safety, customer satisfaction, quality, operational performance, profitability, and margins
• Managing the performance of direct reports through coaching, team building, and performance reviews
• Prioritizing safety through plans, systems, and behaviors
• Reviewing and improving the efficiency of the state’s assets and initiating improvement activities

The key foundations for success include:
• A degree in Business, Engineering, or Operations (preferred)
• Extensive leadership experience in Sales/Trading and Manufacturing
• Proven leadership of teams with diverse functional responsibilities
• Ability to analyze reports, calculate margins, and identify trends
• Capability to analyze market activity and respond to medium-term opportunities and threats
• Exceptional relationship management skills to influence and develop relationships with suppliers, industry bodies, regulators, and staff
• Understanding of international markets and economic drivers
