Your Opportunity
As the Café Chef Supervisor you will provide quality products and services within the Region's Café through the effective and efficient use of resources in relation to all aspects of the Café. You will also provide leadership, direction and supervision to Café staff and hospitality work placement students.
This position reports to the Director, Educational Delivery Services & Arts. This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity. The position will be based primarily at the Pimlico campus, Townsville, however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities
* Implement and maintain procedures for the effective and efficient operation of the Region's Cafe.
* Supervise highly efficient staff including casual staff and hospitality work placement students across the Region's Café through coordinating, monitoring and delegating duties to ensure the highest quality and consistency of product standards and services.
* Monitor sales and profit plans, control cost of goods, inventory levels, labour, supply and other expenses.
* Implement and maintain procedures for the effective and efficient operation of Cafe.
* Carry out a range of activities related to the operation of the Cafe including menu planning, ordering of food, food storage, food presentation, or as directed by the Portfolio Manager.
* Undertake all aspects of food preparation and cooking to ensure the provision of quality products and services to the standard expected for the successful operation of the Region's Cafe.
* Liaise with administrative and teaching staff, reservations and function coordinators regarding the organisation, preparation and catering opportunities.
* Maintain systems and work practices that ensure adherence to the requirements of Workplace Health and Safety legislation.
* Maintain standards in kitchen and food preparation areas, commensurate with those expected of a Café (Food) environment and in accordance with hygiene regulations.
* Ensure day to day activities align with sound business operations.
* Contribute to continuous improvements in business processes and practices.
How You Will Be Assessed
The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:
* Sound leadership, interpersonal and supervisory skills to lead a diverse team in an environment that is governed by administrative systems, practices and processes, particularly in relation to liaising and negotiating with a diverse range of internal and external clients.
* Demonstrated technical knowledge of, and skills in quality food production and presentation in a restaurant and café environment.
* Proven record in executing and increasing sales and controlling costs.
* Understands the work environment and applies knowledge of safety and hygiene in kitchen and food preparation areas.
* Displays the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment.
Mandatory Requirements
* Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery
* Current Food Safety Certificate (SITXFSA005 or SITXFS006 or SITSS00069)
Note: Proof of qualifications and industry currency/experience to be provided at interview.
Highly Desirable Requirements
* TAE40122 – Certificate IV in Training and Assessment; or equivalent
