The SRMO will work in two six-monthly terms between Nepean and Hawkesbury Hospital. The SRMO will be required to assess and manage patients in the elective and emergency setting. The SRMO will be required to assess patients in the emergency department as well as elective and fracture clinics. The SRMO will assist in elective and emergency surgery in theatres under consultant supervision. The SRMO will be an important part of a unit, also charged with the supervision of interns and junior medical officers. Preparation of clinical material for weekly department meetings will be necessary, as well as participation in quarterly audit meetings including the collection and presentation of data. Teaching and training of junior staff as well as nursing and allied health may be required during the year.
What you'll be doing
* Assessing trauma patients appropriately in the Emergency Department and then carry out basic trauma care in the operating theatres under supervision.
* Assisting with orthopaedic elective work performed at the hospital.
* Reviewing and managing patients in outpatient clinics including preadmission clinic for elective surgery, orthopaedic fracture and wound review clinics, virtual and telehealth clinics; and a range of elective clinics including the high risk foot clinic.
* Initial assessment of the patient: this consists of ensuring a complete and documented comprehensive patient history, physical examination and the formulating of a management plan and ordering appropriate investigations.
* Assisting interns and residents to provide ward care for patients on the the orthopaedic unit.
* Participating in overtime rosters and an after hours on call roster including weekends.
Where you'll be working
* Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital and a regional trauma centre serving a local population of over 300,000.
* The unit provides service to a busy regional trauma centre supporting both elective and trauma surgery under the supervision of the Orthopaedic Consultants. Elective work performed at the hospital includes major joint replacement, spine surgery and arthroscopy.
* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
* Completion of at least two postgraduate years by the time of commencement of employment.
* Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position.
* Sufficient clinical experience in order to undertake the key accountabilities for this role
* This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
* Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
* To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.
Essential requirements
* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
* Completion of at least two postgraduate years by the time of commencement of employment.
* Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position.
