Summary:
Summary/Objective The Controls Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of STACK's Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), including associated controls networks, integrations and data models. Working cross-functionally with Critical Operations, Engineering, Projects and vendors, the role delivers hands-on technical expertise across configuration, optimisation, troubleshooting, maintenance and lifecycle management.
This position directly supports STACK's commitment to 100% uptime and a concierge-level customer service experience, ensuring controls platforms provide accurate monitoring, reliable automation and actionable insights that reduce operational risk and improve performance.
Responsibilities:
* Support the safe day-to-day operation of all BMS/EPMS systems across STACK facilities.
* Ensure accurate monitoring of critical environments and promptly address system alarms, faults and irregularities.
* Perform BMS/EPMS configuration changes, logic reviews, and control tuning under authorised change control.
* Conduct system health checks, trend analysis, point-to-point verifications, and control loop validation.
* Support commissioning, integration, FAT/SAT activities and BMS/EPMS vendor deliverables for new builds and retrofit projects.
* Work with internal teams and technology partners to introduce automation, dashboards, and reports to reduce operational risk.
* Identify control optimisation opportunities and support roadmaps for energy efficiency improvements.
* Support vendor performance oversight, ensuring maintenance activities are completed to STACK standards.
* Act as a technical escalation point for controls-related issues impacting operations.
* Assist incident investigations and contribute to root-cause analyses and corrective actions.
Competencies and Experience:
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Customer-focused with a proactive service mindset.
* Hands-on experience with Tridium Niagara, HVAC controls, BMS networking and integration.
* Ability to interrogate and integrate devices using protocols such as Modbus and BACnet.
* Ability to analyse complex technical information, system logs, and trend data.
* Strong planning, prioritisation and organisational skills.
* 3+ years in BMS/EPMS engineering or controls-related roles within data centres or other mission-critical environments (e.g., pharma, airports, hospitals, fuel).
* Practical experience executing controls changes in live environments under formal change control, with documented risk assessments and rollback plans.
* Competency with Niagara-based tools (e.g., BQL queries, graphics, dashboards, schedules), or equivalent vendor platforms.
* Must be able to attain and hold NV1 security clearance.
