A world-class mechanical engineer is sought to lead our design and engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing complex onboard systems, selecting equipment, and preparing designs and drawings.
Job Summary:
This leadership role involves supervising design groups, integrating changes during vessel design and build, and ensuring seamless integration of new designs with suppliers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for effectively communicating through drawings, verbal, and written means to all necessary parties. They will also proactively seek innovation and improvement opportunities and implement changes as required.
Key responsibilities include carrying out equipment selection for machinery, propulsion, power, process plants, systems, pumps etc., and preparing designs and drawings, including calculations and schematics.
The role requires the ability to design exhaust systems, propulsion systems, domestic systems, cooling systems, hydraulic systems, fire systems, and follow Austal processes for safety, quality, budget, and risk mitigation.
Providing design support for production, commissioning, and delivery is also essential.
Requirements:
* Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical/Mechatronics) or equivalent
* Hold a Construction safety induction
* Advanced AutoCAD skills
* Solid understanding of production methods and practical application of design
* Experience working within a similar position, designing auxiliary and domestic systems
* Understanding of typical ship mechanical systems, structural, electrical, and mechanical systems interface
* Knowledge of regulatory body rules and regulations requirements
