Maritime Program Support Officer

The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As the primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals, which include:

- Maintaining the Antarctic Treaty System and enhancing Australia's influence within it.
- Protecting the Antarctic environment.
- Understanding Antarctica's role in the global climate system.
- Undertaking scientific work of practical, economic, and national significance.

The AAD also administers the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territories of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.

The Operations and Logistics Branch oversees operations in Antarctica, supporting research stations and remote bases. It manages air and sea transport, including Australia's icebreaker RSV Nuyina and aviation capabilities, with staff primarily in Tasmania, Antarctica, and Macquarie Island.

The Maritime Logistics Section is responsible for maritime operations within the Australian Antarctic Program, including operational planning and management of the RSV Nuyina and other chartered ships, as well as managing the small watercraft fleet.

The key duties of the position include:

- Providing leadership and support to foster a safety-conscious, inclusive, equitable, and flexible culture.
- Leading procurement processes in accordance with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules and managing contracts.
- Overseeing governance, reporting, and compliance with relevant frameworks.
- Managing budgets and financial reporting.
- Developing and reviewing operational documentation such as SMS, SOPs, Risk Assessments, JHA, business continuity plans, and training manuals.
- Ensuring records management standards are maintained.
- Coordinating recruitment processes, including for expeditioner roles.
- Implementing government policies on behalf of the AAD under the direction of the Director, Maritime Logistics.

- Citizenship: Must be an Australian citizen to be eligible for employment.
- Security Clearance: Requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance, which must be maintained.
- Mandatory qualifications:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, procurement, or contract administration, or extensive industry experience.

- Valid Australian motor vehicle driver's license.

- Ability to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).

- Pre-employment checks: Includes police checks, referee checks, character clearance, medical assessment, qualification validation, and a probation period.
