Operational Specialist Role Overview
The role of an Operational Specialist involves coordinating field deployments, facilitating communication between internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring mission requirements are fulfilled.
1. Coordinate field deployments and facilitate communication between internal and external stakeholders, including defence clients. Manage expectations and ensure mission requirements are fulfilled. Support the development of comprehensive mission plans, considering route optimisation, environmental conditions, and risk mitigation to achieve desired outcomes.
2. Oversee Autonomous Underwater Vessel (AUV) operations during missions, monitor vehicle performance, sensor data, and mission progress in real-time. Address technical issues promptly and implement contingency plans to maintain mission continuity. Maintain situational awareness of maritime environments and adjust mission parameters as needed.
3. Gather, analyse, and interpret data from AUV missions to extract actionable insights. Create detailed mission reports summarising key findings, observations, and recommendations. Provide feedback to engineering and development teams to enhance AUV capabilities continuously.
4. Conduct training sessions for Department of Defence personnel on AUV operation, mission planning, and maintenance procedures. Offer ongoing support and assistance to end-users, addressing inquiries and resolving operational challenges effectively.
5. Cultivate strong relationships with partners and customers by providing outstanding operating support and effective communication. Understand their needs, gather feedback, and advocate for their requirements within the organisation, serving as a technical liaison between partners/customers and internal teams.
6. Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, Department of Defence policies, and industry standards related to AUV operations. Implement safety protocols and procedures to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel.
7. Develop, evaluate and iterate Standard Operating Procedures and user documentation for all aspects of AUV operations.
8. Support maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and upgrade activities of AUVs in the field.
9. Be in the field 60%+ of the time, supporting nearshore and offshore testing.
