Offer description

Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) People and Culture is seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of Assistant Director Workplace Inclusion.

What do we want?

CIT People and Culture is seeking an experienced professional for the role of Assistant Director, Workplace Inclusion with solid management skills that can continue to drive our key inclusion programs.

What will you do?

The Assistant Director, Workplace Inclusion plays a key leadership role within the People and Culture Branch, overseeing the implementation of CIT’s 2025-2026 Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), 2024-2026 Gender Equity Action Plan (GEAP), and broader diversity and inclusion initiatives. Reporting to the Director, Psychosocial safety, diversity and inclusion, the Assistant Director leads a small team to manage, design, and deliver inclusive workforce strategies and programs.

You will provide strategic leadership and expert support in designing, implementing, and sustaining integrated solutions recognising that exclusion, cultural disconnection, and inequity require diligence and good project delivery. You will help embed a culture of, respect, belonging, and reconciliation that reflects CIT’s commitment to diversity and the ACTPS values.

What do you need?

By applying evidence-based approaches and strategic collaboration with colleagues across the ACT Public Service, you will translate policy into practice, ensuring our workplaces reflect CIT’s values of inclusion, equity, and reconciliation. Your leadership will close the gap, strengthen social cohesion, and build a resilient, engaged workforce that mirrors the rich diversity of our community.

To be successful in this position you will need to have experience and knowledge in the field of Human Resources Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), including the implementation of a RAP and/or other inclusion initiatives, or the ability to gain this quickly. Excellent customer service and stakeholder management skills are essential as this role will work with people across CIT and the wider ACTPS. Often this work is completed within tight deadlines and with limited supervision, and as such the ability to work autonomously, prioritise work activities, and problem solve are key skills required to be successful in this role.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

- Experience in ACT Public Service or Australian Public Service is highly desirable.
- Human Resources Diversity and Inclusion practitioner, or in a related discipline, is highly desirable.
- Qualifications in a relevant discipline, and/or membership of a relevant professional association are highly desirable.

Notes: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.

Applicants should note that a Joint Selection Committee (JSC) established in accordance with the collective/enterprise agreement provisions will assess all applications for this position.

How to Apply: Please submit a two-page (a maximum of 1000 words) cover letter outlining your suitability for the position against the Selection Criteria within the Position Description, and why you believe you are the best person for the role. Please also provide a current curriculum vitae and the names and contact details of two referees.

Applications should be submitted via the Apply Now button below.
