Offer description

* Join a leading peak body at the forefront of advancing social justice
* Drive high-impact communications strategies that strengthen advocacy and sector alignment
* Full-time or Part-time (0.8), flexible work options
* 12-month contract (parental leave cover)

The Federation of Community Legal Centres Victoria (the Federation) is a fast-paced and dynamic organisation that leads and supports excellence in the community legal sector, promotes the purpose and value of community legal centres (CLCs), and advances social justice and a fair legal system. It is the peak body for Victoria's 50 CLCs, who are at the forefront of helping those facing economic, cultural or social disadvantage and whose life circumstances are severely affected by legal challenges. The Federation's vision is for a community that is fair, inclusive and thriving.

As the Communications Manager, you will lead strategic communications, ensuring the Federation's work is representative and influential, member voices are amplified, and the issues facing the community legal sector are clearly understood by key audiences. This role is well‐suited to a communications professional who values thoughtful, evidence‐based communication, and who is motivated by advancing social justice through accurate and responsible storytelling.

Reporting to the CEO, you will plan and deliver communications across the organisation, including media engagement, advocacy campaigns, oversight of digital communications (with day-to-day social media delivery led by the Digital Communications Officer), and correspondence for a range of stakeholders. You will work closely with internal teams and Community Legal Centres to ensure the Federation's messages are consistent, considered, and aligned with sector priorities.

You will also oversee regular communications outputs, identify opportunities to strengthen the Federation's public positioning, and provide strategic advice to the CEO and Senior Management Team. The role includes leading and supporting the Digital Communications Officer, engaging with a CLC communications working group, and contributing to a collaborative and learning-oriented team culture.

About YOU

* Strong communications experience across a broad audience.
* Experience developing and implementing strategic communications to support advocacy.
* High level written communication and use of plain English skills, including experience and confidence developing high quality content across multiple channels.
* Proven ability to translate complex policy issues into persuasive narrative and messaging.
* Sound political judgement including an understanding of the role of communications in law reform and community services advocacy.
* Proven ability to proactively identify and secure strategic media opportunities.
* Excellent stakeholder relationship skills including experience working with a range of key internal and external stakeholders.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills including the ability to prioritise a range of competing demands and changing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Motivated by collaboration and collective outcomes, with a strong commitment to social justice and alignment with the Federation's values.
* Communications experience in a member-based peak body or a social change organisation would be highly regarded.

The Federation is committed to providing a working environment that is friendly, collaborative and positive. It offers generous salary packaging; flexible work arrangements to support employees with work-life balance; great entitlements including 5 weeks of annual leave and Christmas and New Year shut-down leave; access to an Employee Assistance Program and learning and development opportunities.

The Federation is committed to building a diverse workforce and strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people from culturally and racially marginalised and refugee backgrounds, people of all ages, neurodivergent people, gender diverse people and members of LGBTIQA+ communities. We welcome individuals with a diversity of backgrounds and experience, including lived experience of the issues we work on.

APPLY NOW if you are a purpose-driven communications professional who values collaboration, thoughtful advocacy, and strengthening sector impact.

Gembridge is proud to partner with the Federation of Community Legal Centres.
