A$68,000.00/yr - A$74,000.00/yr

Orygen is Australia's Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health and the largest translational research organisation dedicated to youth mental health in the world.

For over 30 years, Orygen has led groundbreaking early intervention and developed evidence-based models of care to improve the mental health outcomes of young people aged 12-25.

About The Job

Youth Peer Workers are committed, passionate young people who have personal and lived experience of mental health challenges and/or mental health service use. Youth Peer Workers intentionally share this lived experience with young people who access Orygen Recovery services in order to guide young people through their mental health journey and/or supporting them through their time with Orygen Recovery.

Reporting To The Youth Wellbeing Discipline Lead You Will

* Engage and support young people to access appropriate supports within the Orygen Recovery and community.
* Participate in the 'meet and greet' and admission process to understand young people's needs.
* Participate in and develop functional recovery and life skills activities and relationship building activities.
* Attend clinical reviews and other meetings as required representing youth peer workforce.
* Promote Orygen Recovery by communicating regularly with and building and maintaining collaborative working relationships with health and welfare agencies and the general community.

This position works a total of 3 days across a 7-day, rotating roster.

Skills And Experience

The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

* Aged between 18 and 30 years for duration of employment.
* Personal experience of challenges with any of the following: mental health, physical health, alcohol and other drug.
* Knowledge and support of frameworks of early intervention, de-stigmatisation, diversity, inclusion, and non-discrimination.
* Experience or knowledge of peer work/youth participation principles/frameworks.
* Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to communicate warmly and effectively with young people, liaise, build relationships and partnerships, consult and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Note: this role requires the applicant to be within a specific age range for the duration of their employment within this role. This role falls under the special measures category in the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 to promote substantive equality for a group of people who have one (or more) protected attributes such as age. Orygen aims to address equality for young people who have faced or are facing mental ill health challenges.

* $68,330–$74,554 pro rata commensurate with skills and experience pro rata + 12% superannuation and $15,900 in NFP salary packaging + $2,600 meals and entertainment card.

This is a part time (0.6FTE/3 day per week) ongoing position.
