The Eva Copper Mine (ECM) is located in North West Queensland approximately 75km north-west of Cloncurry. The greenfield Eva Copper Mine Project is a significant and strategically important project for Harmony Gold Mining Company Pty Ltd.
The Project will be the largest mining operation in North West Queensland with a minimum mine life of 15 years, and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator. The project is permitted, and the mine site will include development of these pits, a copper concentrator, associated processing and non-processing services and infrastructure including tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, water management facilities, power generation and an accommodation village.
Harmony is the largest gold producer, by volume, in South Africa owning and operating numerous mining and tailings retreatment operations. Harmony also owns and operates the Hidden Valley Mine in Papua New Guinea including holding 50% (Joint Venture with Newmont) in the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. These Papua New Guinea assets together with the Eva Copper Mine Project are supported by the Harmony Australasia corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
Harmony is preparing to progress the Execution Phase of the Eva Copper Mine Project in support of achieving near term 1st production and we are seeking highly motivated and experienced people to join our growing project delivery and operations teams. The Execution Phase will commence with front-end engineering and design, and in parallel preliminary site works will also be progressed in support of full project execution post final investment decision. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of defining, building and operating a major forward-facing metal mining operation that will offer employment opportunities across the project life cycle, from project definition and delivery into operations.
As the Safety Advisor you will be supported by the Senior Safety and Training Advisor providing field safety support across site and ensuring compliance to H&S processes and systems. Also providing field guidance for operations, assisting teams with developing and maintaining good safety practices as well as delivering presentations across site that provides key information for teams.
Responsibilities include:
* Report to the Senior Safety and Training Advisor and support the implementation of site-wide health, safety, and training policies, plans and procedures in alignment with the Safety and Health Management System.
* Assist in maintaining accurate records of employee training competencies in line with the Safety and Health Management System requirements.
* Support operational supervisors in assessing individual and team competencies, contributing to workforce development and performance.
* Assist Training Specialist and ensure contractor training and statutory compliance requirements are met, with accurate records and timely follow-up.
* Manage the site access and induction process, ensuring compliance with entry requirements and onboarding standards for all personnel and contractors.
* Provide support to the Incident Management Team (IMT) and Emergency Management Team (EMT) during emergency response activities.
* Provide support with investigations of significant and total recordable injuries for both Construction and Operations teams.
* Actively promote compliance with all site safety procedures and processes, intervening where safety breaches occur and setting a strong example for others.
* Demonstrate behaviours aligned with the Harmony's values and contribute to a positive, collaborative safety culture across site operations.
* Demonstrate personal commitment to workplace safety, health, and environmental standards, including compliance with the Environmental Protection Act and site-specific Environmental Management System (EMS).Support the Safety & Training specialists in a relief capacity as required.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with Harmony personnel, contractors, service providers, and other stakeholders, modelling behaviour aligned with Harmony's values.
What you will bring to Harmony:
* Minimum 2 years experience in health and safety.
* Current First Aid Qualification
* Self-starter and able to motivate crews and safety representatives as well as others within the organisation
* Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as across different levels of the organisation
* Ability to identify key technical and business issues and develop innovative solutions.
Location
This role will be DIDO from local communities or FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville to our site in Cloncurry NW QLD, with local candidates highly regarded. Roster is 8 days on, 6 days off.
