Kwinana
Department of Education, Western Australia
Posted: 17 February
Offer description

We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Leda Education Support Centre (ESC) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive learning environment where all students can achieve their potential. Leda ESC caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 who have been diagnosed with an Intellectual Disability, Global Development Delay and/or Autism with a demonstrated high educational need.

Leda ESC shares a site with Leda Primary School. Staff across both schools work hard to develop and maintain productive, collaborative relationships that benefit all students. Integration forms an important part of student programs and opportunities are sought through a collaborative teaching approach across both schools.

The Department of Education set a minimum requirement that early childhood requires an education assistant to have or be working towards a relevant Certificate III in Education Assistance. All applicants are highly encouraged to possess the required qualification.

The Role

We are looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated, and energetic Education Assistants looking for exciting and rewarding challenges. The Leda ESC community believe all children can learn, that students can develop skills across all curriculum areas and the social, emotional, physical, and educational development of all children is best facilitated when parents, staff and therapists work together as partners in the process. As an Education Assistant – Special Needs at Leda ESC, you will be required to embrace our whole school vision of 'Every Child, Every Opportunity' for all students and the School Priorities of Literacy, Numeracy, Communication, Positive Behaviour Support, Aboriginal Education and Protective Behaviours.

Suitable applicants will work under general supervision and guidance, performing under limited direction and involve judgment in achieving clearly defined outcomes as determined by the teacher. You will be able to apply techniques, skills and knowledge of relevant principles and practices acquired through previous experience, on the job learning, or relevant qualification. Suitable applicants will ideally have experience across a range of disabilities in a primary school environment dealing with primary students, combined with a flexible and friendly approach with good interpersonal skills.

Suitable applicants will need to be genuine innovators that are prepared to be flexible. It is important to have the ability to look beyond behaviour to the deeper reasons for the behaviour. Sound knowledge in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and effectively being a communication partner is desired.
