ABOUT THE POSITION:This role provides strategic, operational, and business leadership of the Technical Services Department, ensuring the effective delivery of technical services across event amplification, systems and projects, and organisational and commercial support. You'll lead a skilled team to deliver safe, high-quality technical solutions for exhibitions, events, and programs, while managing risk, driving innovation, and maintaining Melbourne Victoria's reputation for excellence. As a key representative of Museums Victoria, you'll build strong stakeholder relationships and champion best practice in technical service delivery across all sites. Some of the key duties include: * Provide strategic and operational leadership of the Technical Services Department, fostering a safe, innovative, and service-driven culture. * Oversee the delivery of technical services across event amplification, exhibitions, systems and projects, and organisational support. * Guide infrastructure planning, equipment specifications, and technical direction to support a wide range of events and programs, including commercial and revenue-generating activities. * Develop and manage departmental budgets, business plans, and contribute to broader organisational strategy and planning. * Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including internal teams, clients, suppliers, and industry partners. * Implement and maintain policies, systems, and procedures to manage people, resources, risk, and compliance effectively. * Monitor project progress, manage risks, and ensure successful delivery of technical solutions within time and budget. * Lead, coach, and support the performance and development of the Technical Services team. * Manage external contractors and consultants to ensure cost-effective and high-quality service delivery. * Represent the department on internal committees and working groups, contributing to governance and strategic decision-making. * Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and organisational policies. The successful applicant will have: * Proven experience leading technical services for exhibitions, events, and programs in complex, multi-site environments — ideally in museums or cultural institutions. * Strong background in technical operations, including event production, systems maintenance, and presentation technologies. * Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver complex projects within tight timeframes and budgets. * Expertise in project management, risk management, and compliance within a technical services context. * Skilled at leading and developing high-performing, customer-focused teams. * Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to collaborate, influence, and build trust across all levels. * Current knowledge of relevant technologies, software, and standards in the events and exhibitions sector. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to represent the organisation, collaborate across all levels, influence outcomes, and build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. * The successful applicant is required to undergo a Working with Children Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).
