ABOUT Kununurra Withdrawal Intervention Centre

In 2024, Wunan Foundation launched the Kununurra Withdrawal Intervention Centre (KWIC), the first Aboriginal community-controlled low medical withdrawal service in Western Australia.

This initiative provides a safe and culturally appropriate environment for individuals in the East Kimberley seeking to withdraw from alcohol and other drugs, allowing them to stabilise before receiving further treatment. KWIC also supports individuals experiencing co-occurring mental health issues, offering comprehensive care to promote long-term recovery.

The six-bedroom facility provides a safe and supportive space where individuals can receive withdrawal support and treatment in a culturally respectful environment. KWIC's holistic approach ensures that care extends beyond substance withdrawal, addressing co-occurring mental health concerns and supporting long-term wellbeing.

The launch of KWIC marks a significant milestone in addressing substance abuse and mental health challenges in the East Kimberley. This initiative strengthens Wunan's commitment to a healthier community through empowerment, cultural safety, and innovative healthcare solutions.

KWIC is looking for applicants who have a high level of professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, have a genuine passion for helping others through challenging times and can support our multi-disciplinary teams whilst providing a safe, healthy and culturally secure environment.

THE POSITION

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to fill the role of KWIC Senior Support Worker, ensuring the ongoing provision of the highest standards of care to our consumers through the provision of clinical services, staff and program development.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

Successful applicant must have an appropriate qualification in Health or related discipline or equivalent, relevant experience. Previous work experience engaging with Aboriginal communities and previous experience in community and social services.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team


• Demonstrated capacity to work in a collaborative manner with staff


• Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills


• Demonstrated ability to problem solve issues on a day-to-day basis


• Training in or experience with alcohol and other drug services


• Can supervise, direct and guide staff.


• Collecting specimens for drugs of abuse


• Understanding of Indigenous Health


• Commitment to ongoing participation in education and professional development

* Have you had training in or experience with alcohol and other drug services?

* How would you rate your understanding of indigenous health issues?

* Have you had previous leadership experience?
