The Don River Railway (DRR), operated by The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc., is a beloved heritage railway and a premier tourist attraction in Tasmania, dedicated to recreating living railway history. Our Mechanical Workshop operates as a heavy industry environment, vital for the preservation and operational readiness of our historic fleet. We pride ourselves on the precision and quality required to maintain and restore complex railway components.
The Opportunity
We are seeking experienced and qualified Turners and Machinists to join our dedicated Mechanical Workshop team. This is a hands-on role where your precision engineering skills will directly contribute to the fabrication, repair, and restoration of critical components for our unique collection of locomotives and rolling stock. If you are passionate about applying your trade in a historical context, working with intricate machinery, and ensuring the longevity of valuable heritage assets, this is a highly rewarding opportunity.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
Operate lathes, milling machines, and other workshop machinery to fabricate, modify, or repair metal components with high precision.
Interpret engineering drawings and specifications for manufacturing and repair tasks.
Conduct inspections of components to identify wear, damage, and ensure adherence to specifications.
Collaborate with other skilled tradespeople, engineers, and volunteers within the Mechanical Workshop.
Adhere strictly to all DRR safety procedures, workshop competencies, and operational guidelines.
Contribute to a positive and collaborative workshop environment.
