About the Role
This position is responsible for ensuring adherence to building compliance requirements as set out under relevant legislative frameworks. The role undertakes inspections and investigations to assess compliance with the Building Act and Regulations and provides direct communication and support to customers.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract.
Key Responsibilities Include:
* Investigate and review complaints of potential breaches under the Building Act and Building Regulations, taking appropriate enforcement action in line with Part 8 of the Act.
* Conduct inspections and audits of buildings and structures to ensure legislative compliance, preparing clear reports and correspondence as required.
* Collaborate with other departments on joint investigations, preparing documentation and initiating legal proceedings where breaches are identified.
* Deliver outstanding customer service by engaging and educating the community on building compliance, legislation, and local laws.
* Provide professional, accurate advice and assistance to clients and the public on building and compliance matters.
* Support the administration of relevant Acts, Regulations, and Local Laws, maintaining efficient records and information systems.
* Participate in the after-hours emergency on-call roster as required.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have academic qualifications in the building construction or Building Surveying field.
Essential Experience:
* Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of the Building Act and related legislation, with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations.
* Demonstrated experience in enforcement activities, including site inspections, report preparation, correspondence, and legal documentation in accordance with Parts 8 and 13 of the Act.
* Sound understanding of government legislation, policy frameworks, and emerging trends in building regulation.
* Advanced analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
* Exceptional communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to prepare high-quality reports.
* Skilled in liaising and negotiating effectively with businesses, community members, and clients.
* Competent in managing and maintaining accurate administrative and reporting systems.
* Proven ability to investigate potential breaches of building legislation and participate in related legal proceedings.
* Strong computer literacy, with proficiency across relevant software and digital systems.
* Registration with the Victorian Building Authority as a Building Inspector – Limited or Building Inspector – Pool Safety (desirable).
* Current Victorian Driver Licence.
