Location: Sydney - Melbourne - Canberra - Brisbane We are seeking an experienced AWS Engineer to support a federal government client in designing, delivering, and operating secure, scalable cloud platforms on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role will take a lead position in architecting cloud environments that support high-availability, mission-critical applications while meeting strict government security and compliance requirements. You will work closely with architects, security teams, delivery partners, and stakeholders to ensure AWS services are implemented effectively, safely, and in line with best practice. Key Responsibilities Design and manage enterprise-scale AWS cloud environments for secure government applications Apply AWS Well-Architected Framework principles to ensure security, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency Lead and support multi-account AWS environments using AWS Organizations, Control Tower, or Landing Zone architectures Implement robust identity and access controls, including IAM, role-based access, and federated authentication Build and maintain infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK) Develop and support CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and testing Design and manage containerised and serverless workloads using ECS, EKS, Lambda, and API Gateway Architect secure network solutions including VPCs, subnets, routing, VPNs, and Direct Connect Implement security controls such as encryption, key management, logging, monitoring, and compliance auditing Produce high-quality technical and security documentation to support governance and accreditation processes Act as a technical escalation point for complex cloud and infrastructure issues Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business and security requirements into technical solutions Essential Skills & Experience Extensive hands-on experience designing and operating solutions on AWS Strong knowledge of core AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, and supporting services Proven experience managing multi-account AWS environments and implementing governance guardrails Advanced experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK) Strong understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment strategies Solid networking experience covering VPC architecture, routing, hybrid connectivity, and security controls Demonstrated experience designing and implementing secure, compliant cloud solutions Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly in high-security or high-availability environments Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Desirable Experience Experience working within Australian Federal Government or other highly regulated environments Familiarity with government security frameworks (e.g. PSPF, ISM, ASD Essential Eight) Experience with compliance tooling such as AWS Config, CloudTrail, and security monitoring services AWS certifications (e.g. Solutions Architect – Professional, DevOps Engineer – Professional) Experience contributing to security accreditation, risk assessments, and operational readiness activities Why Apply?
