The ‘Principal Research Scientist – Community Ecology' holds a key science leadership position in a dynamic area of biodiversity research within the Arthur Rylah Institute (ARI). The successful candidate will have extensive experience in leading the delivery of high-quality biodiversity research and project management with a sound understanding of best practice research processes. They will have well developed leadership, collaboration and stakeholder management skills with diverse partners. The Principal Research Scientist, as a member of the BRI Senior Leadership Team, will contribute to the promotion of an energetic science culture that supports ARI to retain and attract high calibre staff and grow ARI's profile as scientifically credible organisation in applied ecological research. The successful candidate will contribute as part of the team at the Arthur Rylah Institute to support the management of biodiversity in Victoria. The role requires experience in delivering high quality applied biodiversity research, project management, communication, and leadership skills. The key accountabilities for the role include to: Co-lead the Community Ecology Section, providing direction and oversight of the science program and ensuring the health and wellbeing of 29 fantastic scientists. Be responsible for high quality science delivery, maintenance of standards and reporting back against agreed deliverables and milestones. Provide authoritative advice, information and recommendations to executive management, stakeholders, senior staff and partners in relation to a range of ecological and natural resource management issues. Contribute effectively as a member of the Biodiversity Research and Information Senior Leadership Team. Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications A science degree (preferably PhD) with a major in ecology or equivalent is mandatory. Demonstrated experience in leadership, management, resourcing and co-ordination of large scale multi-disciplinary ecological research teams and the ability to engage with diverse partners to develop and deliver credible and innovative ecological research. This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is Heidelberg with hybrid work arrangements available.
