The Role
The Peer Educator's will use their lived experience of navigating the Victorian primary and/or secondary education system by assist newly arrived young people from refugee backgrounds with their school work and basic literacy and numeracy skills. The role will provide assistance to students on subjects such as Maths, English, Science as well as supporting students to develop independent thinking and research skills.

The Peer Educator's will attend our school term based tuition clubs and engage with students to increase their confidence socially and academically to participate in their literacy and learning in a more empowered way.

Key Result Areas

* Program Delivery and Facilitation Provide literacy and numeracy support to primary and secondary school students at the tuition clubs.
* Community Engagement and Youth Participation Engage directly with young people and families to encourage participation in activities at the tuitions clubs
* Monitoring and Reporting Contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes, and assist with reporting on outcomes.
* Risk Management and Child Safety Ensure all activities are delivered in line with MiCare's child safety, safeguarding, and OH&S requirements.

Experience
What We're Looking For

* Lived experience of refugee experience and navigating primary or secondary school in a country of settlement
* Supporting primary or secondary school aged students who speak English as an additional language (EAL) with literacy or numerous skill development and/or activities increasing their confidence is highly desirable.

Essential Skills

* Speak Burmese, Karen, Karenni, Hakka Chin or another language from the Myanmar diaspora.
* The ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner and appreciate cultural differences.
* Enthusiastic individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with young people of diverse backgrounds.
* Proficiency in English, both written and oral.
* Proficiency in numeracy
* Are able and want to confidently engage with school-aged children and young people.
* Willingness to undertake training to fulfill requirements of the role.

To be considered for this role you must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident. The successful applicant must satisfactorily complete all pre-employment checks, including National Police Check and employee Working with Children Check.
