The office of Terry Young MP is seeking applications for a part-time ongoing Electorate Officer, with a focus on community engagement, based in the Longman Electorate in Caboolture, QLD.

About the position

We're seeking applications from candidates with well-developed communication and organisational skills to join the team as an Electorate Officer, with the responsibility of providing support and advice on work relating to electorate matters.

This position supports the Parliamentarian with parliamentary work and constituent engagements.

The ideal candidate has proven experience in a community/stakeholder engagement role and is excited by the opportunity to serve their community and play a key role supporting the democratic process.

Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

* Generate and coordinate proactive community engagement activities including planning and execution of events, mobile offices and other campaign activities.
* Maintain relationships with local community organisations and businesses and provide assistance with grant opportunities.
* Maintain an accurate community database.
* Assist with issues campaigns.
* Assist with electorate and campaign events and activities, including outside normal office hours.
* Photography/videography at events.
* Daily management and triage of the Member's email inbox and incoming mail (on a shared and rostered basis).
* Shared first point of contact for phone-calls and walk-ins to office.
* Carry out constituent enquiries and case work including researching and preparing correspondence in response to constituent enquiries and portfolio matters.
* Travel within the electorate and to Canberra, particularly during parliamentary sitting periods may be required.
* Other duties as required to support the Parliamentarian and the effective operation of the Electorate Office.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:

* Ability to engage and communicate effectively with a broad range of people.
* Highly motivated and able to work proactively, both independently and in a small team.
* Ability to work to tight deadlines, plan, organise and prioritise work under pressure.
* Familiarity with the use of Microsoft 365, especially Teams and Excel.
* An understanding of Australia's system of government and parliamentary processes.
* High level oral and written communication skills, and excellent customer service capabilities with a strong attention to detail.
* A local knowledge of the electorate is desirable.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act (1984) and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement which include:

* A commencing salary between $76,910and $89,793per annum (pro-rata for part-time)will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
* This position is offered on an ongoing part-time basis (30 hours per week).
* An additional optional allowance of $27,865 per annum may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and additional travel requirements.
* Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
* An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

* An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.
* The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
* Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
* The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
