About RNA Australia
Established in March 2023 as a joint initiative between the NSW Government and five leading university partners, RNA Australia's mission is to foster a sustainable, world-class RNA research, development, and commercialisation ecosystem in Australia.
A cornerstone of this mission is the development of a state-of-the-art RNA Research and Pilot Manufacturing Facility at Macquarie University. This will be the first facility of its kind in Australia, offering specialised capabilities to produce RNA therapeutics and delivery technologies for clinical trials and early commercial use, representing a significant advancement in Australia's sovereign biomanufacturing capacity.
About the Role
The Project Director will play a key role in managing the delivery of strategic initiatives that underpin RNA Australia's mission. This includes supporting the oversight of critical agreements (including funding deeds and the Operator Agreement for the facility), coordinating strategic projects, and building strong relationships across the research and commercial RNA ecosystem.
You will also represent RNA Australia in key engagements and support stakeholder activities such as workshops, forums, and industry briefings. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a major national initiative and shape the future of RNA capability in Australia.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate the planning, delivery, and tracking of RNA Australia's strategic projects and initiatives
* Oversee compliance with funding agreements and the Operator Agreement
* Build and maintain trusted relationships across government, industry, and academia
* Prepare reports, presentations, and briefing materials for a range of audiences
* Represent RNA Australia in meetings, forums, and public events
* Undertake sector research and contribute to strategic decision-making
* Support stakeholder engagement activities and event coordination
* Contribute to continuous improvement of RNA Australia's project delivery approach
Ideal Profile
You will bring a tertiary qualification and have at least five years' experience in a project management or coordination role within the biotechnology, life sciences, or public health sectors.
Experience working with or within industry associations, research networks, or cross-sector collaborations is highly desirable, demonstrating your ability to engage diverse stakeholders and build strong partnerships across government, academia, and industry.
You will have a proven track record of delivering strategic projects, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative mindset. This role will suit someone who thrives in dynamic environments, is purpose-driven, and passionate about contributing to the growth of Australia's RNA ecosystem.
This role offers the chance to contribute to a nationally significant initiative from the ground up. If you are passionate about science, purpose-driven, outcomes-focused, and excited by the challenge we would love to hear from you.
