We pay our respects to Elders past and present who hold memories, knowledge and culture and their enduring cultural practices of caring for Country that spans millennia.About the OpportunityAs the Aboriginal Student Adviser in the Riawunna Centre you will play a vital role in fostering a culturally safe and supportive environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
You will provide tailored advice and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from transition through to completion and contribute to the design and delivery of initiatives that enhance student success, belonging and visibility of Aboriginal addition.
You will:Connect students to scholarship opportunities, supplementary support services and cultural supportsWork in collaboration with key university partners to design and deliver academic support initiativesEnsure orientation programmes, curriculum, co-curricular experiences and student resources are appropriate to the needs of Aboriginal studentsEnsure Aboriginal student retention and progression is supported, monitored and appropriate early interventions are facilitatedWork in collaboration to develop prospective student information and resources to support school and community engagement strategiesDeliver targeted Riawunna programmes and cultural experiences that increase the visibility of Aboriginal people, history and culture at the UniversityAbout the UniversityAt the University of Tasmania we have a mission to make a difference for Tasmania and from Tasmania.

We welcome enquiring minds from near and far to join us in our pursuit of the extraordinary.RequirementsAbility to communicate effectively and in a culturally sensitive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peopleExcellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skillsAbility to develop, implement and evaluate programsIT skills and capacity to adapt to new technologies and systemsAbility to acquire an understanding of complex information including University courses structures and study plans and capacity to guide students in these areasDemonstrated networking skills with the capacity to engage with a variety of stakeholdersDemonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and use discretion, initiative, judgement and confidentialityA degree qualification in a relevant field combined with relevant practical experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and/or training.This is an Identified Position.
