About the Role – Electrical Estimator/Planner
The Estimator/Planner plays a key role in developing accurate and competitive costings for electrical and engineering projects. This role will assess tender documentation, develop detailed estimates, and liaise with internal teams and external suppliers. This role is critical in ensuring Touchstone Systems wins work competitively while maintaining profitability and risk management. This role also includes liaising with sites and clients for scheduling projects and pre‑curing materials and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
* Review project drawings, plans, engineering specifications, and tender documentation.
* Prepare detailed cost estimates for labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and project-related expenses.
* Develop Bills of Quantities and material take‑offs.
* Coordinate supplier and subcontractor pricing, ensuring competitive and accurate quotes.
* Prepare tender submissions, proposals, and supporting documentation.
* Identify and quantify risks, exclusions, clarifications, and assumptions.
* Attend tender briefings, site inspections, and client meetings when required.
* Assess constructability, compliance with Australian Standards, and project requirements.
* Work with engineers and project managers to ensure estimates align with project methodology.
* Provide cost breakdowns, supplier quotes, and key tender assumptions to ensure smooth delivery.
* Assist in preparing variations and updated cost estimates during project execution.
* Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, wholesalers, and subcontractors.
* Assist in planning for electrical projects, including material and equipment procurement.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating procedures and systems.
Competence Requirements
* Demonstrated experience as an Estimator in the electrical construction industry (industrial preferred).
* Strong understanding of electrical installations, components, and Australian Standards.
* Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and scope documents.
* Knowledge of Australian Standards and relevant regulations.
* Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., SimPRO).
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to work to deadlines with competing priorities.
* Effective communication skills for liaising with suppliers, engineers, and clients.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Trade qualification (e.g., Electrician) with an industrial or commercial background.
* Experience estimating for switchboard manufacturing, construction projects, commercial electrical fit‑outs, or industrial installations.
* Knowledge of procurement practices and contract terms.
* Experience with CAD or engineering design software.
