Job Title: Legal Officer
Overview:
This is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled professional to provide high-quality legal services on behalf of the government to departmental staff within the Department.
As a Legal Officer, you will be part of a team of lawyers delivering practical, independent and strategic legal advice and representation on complex matters.
The role also provides an opportunity to contribute to improvements in child protection litigation system in Queensland.
The work is challenging but rewarding.
The position will be located in a regional office or centre and will involve travel and attendance at courts and centres across the state to support the Department and its clients.
You are required to possess expertise in relation to the department's services in a court environment and apply your knowledge to provide high-quality legal services.
This role requires technical ability to litigate, negotiate, provide legal advice, and to interact with clients and stakeholders in a complex environment including within the department.
Your Responsibilities:
* Ensure that high-quality legal services are delivered on behalf of the Queensland Government – including undertaking duties out of hours in relation to urgent applications.
* Provide expert legal advice, support and representation on behalf of centres in emergency applications under the Act.
* Provide expert legal advice, representation and preparation of court material in support of applications and other related matters.
* Liaise with key stakeholders to ensure a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to the provision of legal services by the Department.
* Contribute to building and maintenance of a culture in the Department that supports vision and values and achieves objectives.
