Job Title: Indigenous Governance Researcher
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated researcher to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be part of an exciting research project focused on investigating barriers and pathways to commercial development of Indigenous traditional medicines.
The project involves researching Indigenous perspectives on governance arrangements in relation to commercial development of Traditional Knowledge (TK) in genetic resources, as well as the potential benefits and risks of commercialising TK under current IP regimes.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in law, Indigenous governance, medical anthropology, chemistry, and pharmaceutical regulation. They will be responsible for conducting research into the capacity of Indigenous governance systems to manage the interface between expectations of traditional knowledge holders and research partners.
This is a unique opportunity for a researcher to advance the recognition of Indigenous bio-cultural resources within current Australian IP and regulatory frameworks.
Responsibilities include:
* Investigating Indigenous perspectives on governance arrangements in relation to commercial development of TK in genetic resources;
* Conducting research into the capacity of Indigenous governance systems to manage the interface between expectations of traditional knowledge holders and research partners;
* Developing and maintaining effective relationships with relevant Aboriginal representative organisations, government agencies, and non-government organisations;
Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of experts in law, Indigenous governance, medical anthropology, chemistry, and pharmaceutical regulation.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work effectively in a collaborative research environment.
Required qualifications and skills include:
* A PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant field;
* Expertise in law, Indigenous governance, medical anthropology, chemistry, and pharmaceutical regulation;
* Strong research and analytical skills, with experience in conducting research projects;
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
* Ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment;
This is a fixed-term position for 3 years. The salary package includes a base salary and superannuation contributions.
