Primary objective
The National Disability Insurance Scheme Offender Services Team conducts comprehensive discipline specific assessments and engages
with internal and external stakeholders to support people in custody living with a disability to gain access to the NDIS. The Psychologist
conducts comprehensive clinical assessment and recommendations to prisoners in the custody of the Department of Corrections, who
are suspected of having a disability. They also provide professional input into appropriate management, treatment plans, Additionally, they
provide input into the development, of policy and practice and provide peer consultation, training and professional support to colleagues
as required.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake clinical assessments, needs assessments, develop clinical formulations and appropriate treatment plans, and write
assessment and treatment reports for prisoners in custody.
2. Facilitate individual and/or group-based offence specific and offence related programs for prisoners as required.
3. Liaise and consult with internal and external stakeholders on issues relevant to the management of offenders to ensure coordinated
case management.
4. Provide input into the preparation of individual sentence and management/case plans for prisoners.
5. Apply sound theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the development, delivery and evaluation of programs and services.
6. Be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team, participate in clinical supervision and ongoing professional development and training.
7. Provide evaluation on programs, assessments and reports as required and maintain accurate, legible and proficient client case notes,
records and statistics.
8. Carry out duties as requested by the Principal Advisor Health.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualifications in psychology with unconditional registration to practice as a psychologist in Australia via Psychology Board of
Australia/AHPRA and eligibility for membership of the Australian Psychological Society
2. Experience in cognitive and disability related clinical assessment.
3. Provide advice and support regarding the assessment and management of prisoners with complex mental health issues or disability.
4. Demonstrated experience in providing clinical oversight and supervision to multidisciplinary staff in developing complex management
plans.
1. Teaching skills in assessment and risk management on a group and individual basis and forming and running case conferences
2. Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and to deal with: highly sensitive information, in accordance with the Code of
Conduct and the Privacy Act.
Desirable
1. Experience working within a custodial environment with high-risk mental health and disability residents.
