Chief Internal Auditor – Shoalhaven City Council
Location: Nowra, NSW
Salary: $130,000 – $150,000 + Super
Type: Permanent, Full-Time (35 hours/week)

Shoalhaven City Council is seeking a Chief Internal Auditor to drive transparency, strengthen risk management, and embed best practice across the organisation. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a strategic leadership role with significant influence on culture and decision-making.

About the Role
* Coordinate Council's internal audit program and manage external service providers.
* Develop and implement the Strategic Internal Audit Plan aligned with Global Internal Audit Standards and NSW OLG Guidelines.
* Prepare and present audit reports to the Executive Leadership Team and Audit Risk & Improvement Committee (ARIC).
* Provide expert advice on governance, compliance, and risk management.
* Maintain audit systems and processes for continuous improvement.

About You
* Tertiary qualifications in business, accounting, commerce, or related discipline.
* Professional certifications: CIA, CPA, or CA, plus membership with the Institute of Internal Auditors.
* Current membership with the Institute of Internal Auditors is required at the time of application.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior internal audit role within a large, complex organisation.
* Public sector internal audit experience is required for this position.
* Strong understanding of Enterprise Risk Management principles.
* Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Current Class C Driver's Licence and the right to work in Australia.
