Description About the role: As a Data Migration Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing end-to-end data migration processes within key projects in accordance with established best practice. You will provide technical leadership to data engineers and analysts to plan, design and execute migration strategies from legacy systems to new platforms. Key Responsibilities: Lead the development of data migrations and mentor data engineers and data analysts responsible for executing data migrations. Provide technical guidance and foster a collaborative working environment to build internal delivery capability in data migration. Assist the delivery team in execution where capacity allows. Act as the primary point of contact for technical aspects of data migrations, providing regular updates on migration progress, addressing concerns and ensuring alignment with business outcomes. Implement and enforce data governance frameworks and quality standards throughout the migration process to ensure compliance with regulatory and organisational requirements. Oversee data validation and reconciliation post-migration to ensure the accuracy, completeness and integrity of migrated data. Work closely with Testing teams to ensure proper testing at every stage of the data migration. Develop and execute cutover plans to switch from legacy systems to new platforms with minimal downtime. Coordinate rollback plans in case of critical failures. Provide ongoing support post-migration, addressing any data-related issues. Provide tools and templates for repeatable and consistent execution of data migration tasks. Maintain comprehensive documentation for the migration process, including data mappings, transformation rules, testing procedures and post-migration reports. About you: As a technical leader within the data team, you will be a strong communicator and be able to work with cross-functional teams. You will build internal capability in data migration, contributing to and upholding best practice data methodologies. You will ensure that data migration processes and solutions are scalable, repeatable and incorporate appropriate data management techniques to ensure a seamless transition of data with minimal disruption to the business. Knowledge and Experience: Extensive experience in data engineering or data architecture. Experience developing and managing ETL/ELT processes and scripts. Proven experience delivering large-scale data migration projects, including complex legacy system migrations. Hands on experience with data migration tools, Azure DataBricks desirable. Familiarity with cloud platforms is essential. Knowledge of data modelling, data warehousing and database design. Familiarity with data governance practices, data quality management and regulatory compliance including data privacy laws. Ability to manage and align expectations of multiple stakeholders encompassing technical, business and senior management. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage stakeholders and balance competing priorities.
