Alta-1 College QLD Lead Teacher Full Time Position
Alta-1 College Queensland delivers learning pathways to educationally disengaged and at-risk students. Our programs deliver solutions that include community involvement, recovery and education outcomes. The College is a multi-sited, independent, co-educational Special Assistance School (SAS) for Years 7-12. We work with at-risk young people in deliberately small campus settings, providing trauma-informed, wrap-around support that empowers them to discover their identity and purpose through a recovery focused education. As a Christian organisation, we believe that every young person is made in the image of God and holds inherent and irrevocable value. The Opportunity
Alta-1 College QLD is growing in response to the increasing for quality education alternatives for young people who are at-risk of educational disengagement and negative life outcomes. The college delivers a model that has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of young people across the last decade in Queensland. Our vision to see lives changed "one-at-a-time" and our mission to "transform communities through justice, knowledge recovery and hope" are key drivers that underpin our desire to reach more young people. This season of growth is both exciting and challenging. Staff joining the college will need to carry a genuine heart for at-risk young people, a willingness to work closely with others in a team and the capacity to navigate change flexibly. While there are dynamic elements to our current season, the college operates from a strong base of a decade of operation and a consistent, passionate and community-minded staff team. Qualified, passionate and experienced teachers should apply for this Teacher Position. Our teachers require heart, energy, wisdom and professionalism, working holistically with young people to support their education, school community engagement and recovery journeys. In addition to secondary trained teachers, those teachers with primary school training are encouraged to apply as the classroom model is reflective of a primary school setting. While the College has had a successful recruitment process across the end of **** we are yet to fill an important teacher leadership role. The position, known as a "Lead Teacher" position is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of a campus program. The program carries an enrolment of approximately 40 students and the successful candidate will also oversee and directly support four program staff. The role is a teaching role and the successful candidate will be able to work effectively with the small staff team while also delivering quality teaching to at-risk students. The program sits within a larger support framework that includes leadership, administration and students services supports.
Role Purpose & Key Responsibilities
The Lead Teacher plays a central role in ensuring the successful delivery of the educational and recovery programs of Alta-1 College. They:
Lead small teams to deliver great outcomes for at-risk students
Manage the overall operation of a college campus program
Deliver curriculum in line with College and regulatory requirements
Provide pastoral care and support to students
Manage student behaviour and ensure a safe, inclusive learning environment
Engage positively with parents and external agencies
Contribute to campus and program development
The role requires professional integrity, effective communication, and a commitment to both student transformation and teaching excellence.
Role Selection Criteria
Essential (applicable to all college staff)
Commitment to Christian faith, college values and the highest standards of professional conduct
Passionate about supporting at-risk and vulnerable young people towards positive growth and change
Essential (role specific)
Demonstrated capacity to lead healthy teams to deliver great outcomes
Demonstrated capacity to deliver curriculum and support diverse learners
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with at-risk young people
Organisational skills, including accurate record-keeping and reporting
Highly desirable
Knowledge of trauma-informed, inclusive education practices
Previous experience working with at-risk and educationally disengaged young people
Required Qualifications
To be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers
Holder of a valid driver licence
