Seeking a skilled Linux System Engineer to join our Federal Government Client. 12 Months Contract with extensions Sydney, NSW Hybrid work flexibility 2-3 days on-site / WFH Key Responsibilities Run and maintain core IT services including data centres, servers, virtualisation, operating systems, storage, backup, time services, logging, email, domain name resolution, web proxying, and security. Securely manage connections to and from external networks, ensuring the safety and integrity of data traffic. Perform daily security monitoring and risk mitigation across the IT environment. Design, implement, and maintain ~600 Linux hosts (primarily Ubuntu with some RHEL) and associated base infrastructure services, including virtualisation (VMware), block and file storage (Pure Storage), backup (Cohesity), and index/search (Splunk). Administer core applications such as DNS (BIND), NTP, SMTP (Postfix), web proxying (Squid, Forcepoint/Websense), and RSA SecurID. Work in a secure on-premises environment, contributing to both business-driven and internal projects from design through to service delivery. Collaborate closely with other technical teams (Development, Platforms, Networks, Windows, Service Desk) to resolve issues and escalate concerns effectively. Required Skills Proven Experience as a Linux System Engineer Extensive experience managing a large fleet of Linux hosts and providing organisation-wide base infrastructure and core services Ansible automation skills for infrastructure deployment and management Experience in problem-solving, troubleshooting, documentation, and root cause analysis A deep understanding of Linux, including networking, auditd, SELinux/AppArmor, IPTABLES/NFTABLES, TLS, and PKI Experience implementing the ACSC's Essential Eight in a Linux environment Due to security clearance requirements for this role, candidates must be Australian Citizen with Active Baseline Clearance or NV1 Security Clearance or higher.
