Service Stream is currently looking for a Construction Manager based in Sydney.
The Construction Manager is responsible for the overall project delivery, financial and quality targets, ensuring compliance to Service Stream specified HSE work practices and policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Leadership and direction to ensure the construction teams safely achieve project delivery KPI's and meet our client (nbn) expectations.
- Provide Subject Matter Expertise in the construction of nbn networks providing detailed knowledge and support to Engineering / Construction Delivery team to plan and deploy the nbn construction program.
- Allocate Supervision to meet program requirements.
- Manage the day to day activity of field work, staff, equipment and materials to ensure that the performance of field work occurs in accordance with agreed schedules.
- Manage the Traffic Management, LAFHA, Environmental Management and other site controlled Budgets
- Ensure the standard of all work in the field is of a high quality and in accordance with work practices and standards required by nbn, the Company and other service providers e.g. Telstra.
- Assist to Identify and develop process and work practices to improve productivity and reduce the costs of field work activities.
- Manage scope changes in accordance with the Commercial Management Procedures and delegated level of authority.
- Ensure the provision of high quality and timely field documentation to enable effective client invoicing.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and 3rd party stakeholders, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ensure all staff and contractors are following all policies and procedures set by the client and Service Stream's quality, environmental and safety plans.
- Ensure the distribution of all safety, technical and process communications are provided to all staff.
- Lead and maintain a positive team, motivating people to achieve the highest levels of job satisfaction.
- Develop staff in relevant working practices and all other relevant company policies.
- Manage the team's performance through the resolution of conflicts, counselling of staff and subcontractors on poor performance, quality and attendance etc.
- Ensure all safety and vehicle audits are conducted in a timely manner in accordance with Service Stream's management plan.
- Manage site depot, office or other facilities required to support construction delivery activities.
- Manage the development of all direct reports in accordance with SSL HR policies.
Experience required
- Minimum of 5 years site management experience in telecommunications network construction environment leading nbn field operations.
- Possess an expert knowledge for the delivery of large scale Brownfields construction projects for nbn and a thorough understanding of relevant aspects of the various networks and the work practices required by nbn.
- Ability to resolving day-to-day operational issues and solve technical problems with a high degree of autonomy, and independent judgement and key working relationships with the clients regional teams.
- Excellent communication skills to interpret the meaning of complex written, spoken and diagrammatic procedures and to ensure all staff are clearly instructed on procedures, policies and targets etc.
- Demonstrable commercial acumen and understanding of the nbn commercial processes.
- Be committed to excellent performance and workmanship
- Possess a high level of organisation skills to achieve production targets. Be effective with time management and be able to prioritise critical issues
- Must possess an aptitude for effective leadership with a commitment to positively influence others
- Must have well-developed interpersonal skills
- Possess suitable negotiation and communication skills to ensure diplomatic resolution of work based and stakeholder issues.
- Possess Civil pit and pipe technical knowledge
- Possess Fibre design and installation knowledge
- Possess nbn Brownfield construction expertise
- Possess Communications Copper construction or maintenance expertise.
Qualifications required
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and/or relevant professional qualification (preferred)
- Accreditation - White Card
