Azooa is preparing a response to an upcoming Australian Government opportunity (RFQ LH-05783) with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). We are currently seeking experienced Automation Test Analysts who are interested in contributing to large-scale ICT programs within a federal government environment.
This opportunity sits within DFAT's Information Management and Technology Division, which delivers critical enterprise ICT services supporting Australia's diplomatic operations, international engagement, and internal departmental services.
The Automation Test Analyst will play an important role in strengthening DFAT's quality assurance capability, improving test automation coverage, and ensuring enterprise applications meet quality, security, and reliability standards before release.

About the Department
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) manages Australia's international relations, trade, and global engagement. To support these responsibilities, DFAT relies on a sophisticated ICT environment that enables secure communication, global operations, and delivery of digital services.
The Information Management and Technology Division (IMTD) provides enterprise ICT capabilities that support DFAT's staff across Australia and at overseas posts around the world.
Key responsibilities of the division include:
* Delivering modern enterprise applications and digital platforms
* Maintaining secure and resilient ICT infrastructure
* Supporting digital transformation initiatives across the department
* Ensuring technology systems meet strict governance, security, and compliance standards.
Within this division, the Quality Assurance Section plays a critical role in ensuring that new systems and technology changes meet required standards before being deployed into production environments.
Role Overview
The Automation Test Analyst will support DFAT's testing capability by designing, developing, and maintaining automated testing solutions across enterprise applications, web platforms, and system integrations.
The role will work closely with:
* Test analysts and QA teams
* Software developers and technical specialists
* Project and delivery teams
* Business stakeholders
The primary focus of the role is to increase testing efficiency and reliability through automation, while ensuring systems meet DFAT's quality standards and project requirements.
The successful candidate will be responsible for building automation frameworks, executing automated test suites, integrating tests into DevOps pipelines, and contributing to the continuous improvement of testing practices.
Key Responsibilities
The Automation Test Analyst will be responsible for supporting quality assurance activities across the full system development lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
* Designing and developing automated testing frameworks and scripts
* Implementing automated tests for web applications, APIs, and enterprise systems
* Developing automated regression test suites to support continuous delivery
* Integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps processes
* Executing automated test runs and analysing results
* Identifying, documenting, and tracking defects using test management tools
* Supporting manual testing activities where automation is not feasible
* Collaborating with developers and test analysts to improve test coverage
* Maintaining and enhancing automation frameworks over time
* Ensuring test automation aligns with organisational testing standards.
The role will also contribute to improving the maturity of DFAT's testing practices by identifying opportunities to enhance automation capability across the department's ICT programs.
Technical Responsibilities
The Automation Test Analyst will work across a range of enterprise technologies and testing scenarios.
Typical responsibilities include:
* Automating tests for web applications and enterprise platforms
* Testing REST and SOAP APIs and system integrations
* Supporting testing across commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) systems and bespoke applications
* Managing test execution and defect tracking through Azure DevOps
* Supporting testing activities within Agile and DevOps delivery environments
* Implementing automated testing within continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines
* Collaborating with platform teams to ensure test environments support automated execution.
Essential Skills and Experience
Candidates must demonstrate the following:
* ISTQB Foundation certification or higher
* Minimum 8+ years experience in software or system testing
* Strong experience in test automation frameworks and scripting
* Experience using Azure DevOps or similar tools for test management and defect tracking
* Experience testing web applications and enterprise systems
* Experience testing REST APIs and SOAP web services
* Experience working within Agile or DevOps environments
* Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities
* Active NV1 security clearance
Desirable Skills and Experience
The following experience would be highly regarded:
* Experience testing Salesforce or other low‐code / no‐code platforms such as Microsoft Power Apps or SmartIQ
* Experience testing cloud‐hosted applications and services
* Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation practices
* Experience testing in large enterprise or government environments
* Experience testing infrastructure or platform environments.
The Automation Test Analyst will work within DFAT's Quality Assurance Section, which provides testing governance, test management services, and quality assurance oversight across ICT projects.
The QA team supports multiple ICT delivery teams across the department, ensuring systems meet required standards before deployment.
The role may support testing activities across several areas including:
* Infrastructure and integration services.
This provides exposure to a wide range of technologies and delivery programs across the department.
Working Arrangement: Onsite – 5 days per week
Estimated Start Date: June 2026
Extension Options: Two additional 12-month extensions
Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
Security Clearance: Active NV1 clearance required
Please note that DFAT requires candidates to work onsite in Canberra. Remote or interstate candidates will not be considered.
Contractors should also note that DFAT typically has a stand‐down period during December and January, usually lasting approximately 4–6 weeks, when contractor services are temporarily paused.
