The Role
As an Emerging Project Manager / Project Support Officer, you'll take ownership of significant project elements within a major defence capability program. Working under broad direction, you'll demonstrate self‐initiated work management whilst contributing to complex technical and professional activities across the Defence Capability Life Cycle.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, schedule, and monitor project work activities, ensuring alignment with program objectives and Defence requirements
* Develop and maintain project documentation including strategies, plans, schedules, estimates and progress reports
* Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to manage project uncertainties
* Coordinate with stakeholders across Defence, industry partners and internal teams
* Prepare and deliver briefings, workshops and presentations to diverse audiences
* Mentor junior project staff and contribute to team capability development
* Monitor project performance against schedules, budgets and quality standards
* Support procurement activities, contract administration and supplier engagement
* Ensure compliance with Defence governance frameworks and project management methodologies
About You
Qualifications & Experience
* Essential - Current project management experience, ideally within Defence or complex regulated environments
* Essential - Demonstrated experience managing projects with broad range and complexity
* Desirable - Higher education qualifications at minimum Advanced Diploma level (or equivalent)
* Desirable - Professional project management qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2, PMI, or similar)
Skills & Attributes
* Strong analytical approach with ability to plan, schedule, and monitor work effectively
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Proven ability to influence customers, suppliers, and partners at account level
* Practical understanding of project management methodologies and tools
* Capability to work independently within established frameworks
* Collaborative mindset with genuine interest in team success
* Professional judgement and discretion in handling sensitive information
Security
* Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate Defence security clearance
