Tenants Queensland is seeking a TQ QSTARS Hub Advice Worker to join its team in Mount Isa. This is a meaningful opportunity for someone who is passionate about social justice, housing security and supporting people through complex tenancy issues.
In this role, you will provide high-quality advice, information and practical guidance to residential renters, helping them better understand their rights, strengthen their confidence and access the support they need to resolve housing concerns.

Tenants Queensland has represented the interests of Queensland renters since 1986. The organisation provides specialist tenancy advice, advocates for renters and works to improve residential tenancy laws across the state.
Through the QSTARS program, Tenants Queensland supports renters with information, advice and referral pathways that help people remain informed, empowered and connected to the right services.
About the role
As the TQ QSTARS Hub Advice Worker, you will work within a high-demand contact centre environment supporting Queensland renters who require information and advice in relation to tenancy matters.
Following training, you will provide advice and guidance on issues connected to the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008, assist renters to identify practical options, and connect them with additional support services where required.
This role involves working across a range of communication channels including phone, face-to-face interactions and digital platforms.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
* provide intake and support services for Queensland renters seeking information and advice
* deliver tenancy-related information, advice and guidance following training
* conduct individual interviews to identify client concerns and support needs
* work with clients to develop practical plans to address tenancy problems
* assist renters to build effective communication with real estate agents and lessors
* help clients understand and complete forms and required paperwork
* refer clients to regional QSTARS offices where more intensive support is needed
* connect renters with other relevant services such as community legal centres, the Residential Tenancies Authority and homelessness supports
* contribute to service quality, records management and continuous improvement activities
* undertake administrative and data entry tasks associated with client service delivery
What you will bring

* an understanding of, or the ability to quickly build knowledge of, Queensland residential tenancy law and broader housing issues
* the ability to manage inbound calls confidently and professionally
* resilience and strong personal boundaries when working with distressed or vulnerable clients
* highly developed verbal and written communication skills
* the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
* confidence using digital systems and client information platforms
* the ability to relate well to people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
* strong interpersonal skills, including consultation and client engagement
Essential requirements
* commitment to the principles of social justice and social development
* understanding of, or demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of:
o Queensland residential tenancy law
o housing issues
Highly desirable
* qualifications in social work, social science, law or a related field
* previous experience in the community services sector
Desirable
* Queensland driver licence
* ability to travel if required, although travel is expected to be limited
