Energy Trading Specialist
The Energy Trading Specialist plays a key role in the Operations Control Centre, responsible for real-time dispatch, monitoring, and performance reporting of renewable energy assets.
The team focuses on short-term optimisation, working with an expanding customer portfolio in the National Electricity Market (NEM).
Key Responsibilities
* Trade in the spot market for wind, solar, gas, and battery assets across the NEM.
* Manage risk associated with volatility in the electricity and ancillary service markets.
* Analyse and understand competitor behaviour within the traded markets.
* Optimise the purchase and sale of fuel for peaking assets.
* Minimise the impact of transmission and dispatch constraints on the assets.
* Provide guidance on spot market dynamics, including plant and network outages, constraints, and other market outcomes.
Monitoring and Issue Management
* Monitor assets using SCADA, meteorological, and electricity market systems.
* Identify and assess issues impacting plant availability.
* Manage and escalate issues according to operating protocols and market conditions.
* Track major events and coordinate communication between teams and stakeholders.
Analysis and Reporting
* Report on Australian short-term energy market trends.
* Develop in-house tools for real-time decision making.
* Perform regular analysis on portfolio performance, market drivers, and competitor behaviour.
* Maintain operational records and events for reporting purposes.
About the Role
This is a continuous 24/7 roster cycle shared within the team, combining trading shifts, project days, and flexible leave.
Requirements
* Tertiary graduate in STEM and/or Commerce fields.
* Experience in spot trading, the Energy sector, and operations-focused roles.
* Skills in established trading systems, market data systems, database queries, and SCADA systems.
* Ability to analyse Australian energy market dynamics.
