We are seeking a Cybersecurity Defence and Response Senior Officer on the team for a continuing appointment.
About the Role
The Cybersecurity Defence & Response Senior Officer works within the Defence & Response team to manage risks from cyber threats, support vulnerability identification and management, and monitor infrastructure connected to the university network.
The role focuses on independent operational execution and moderate complexity, supporting the team's capability to identify and mitigate cyber threats. Manage daily notifications and IT Service-Management. This can include leading small initiatives, supporting and advising Cyber affiliates, and engaging with a broader range of stakeholders, both internal and external. The role focuses on analysing information, producing insights and recommendations, and supporting decisions under general direction within defined frameworks.
The position is pivotal in leading operational responses during cyber incidents and contributes to all aspects of alert detection, investigation, and vulnerability management.
About You
As the Cybersecurity Defence and Response Senior Officer, you will have:
• Demonstrated exposure to identifying and managing security risks through supported activities such as basic gap analysis, evidence gathering, or assisting with audits and reviews
• Exposure to incident response through participation in an internal team, service desk escalation pathways, or supervised operational support
• Demonstrated exposure to security monitoring and investigation activities using security tools (e.g., SIEM/EDR dashboards), with ability to follow procedures and escalate appropriately
• Exposure to intrusion detection/alerting concepts and supporting investigations under guidance
• Foundational knowledge of network and web-related protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, IPSec, HTTP/HTTPS, and basic routing concepts)
• Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and common security controls, with awareness of scripting/automation concepts and technical solution design principles
• Awareness of incident management practices and the importance of accurate triage, escalation, and record keeping during security events
• Demonstrated communication skills, with an ability to engage constructively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Remuneration
Base Salary Range: $109,014 - $120,596 (HEW 7)
This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.
This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
