The role
Overview
Townsville City Council is seeking an experienced senior leader to guide the evolution of our Creative Communities portfolio, which includes galleries, performing arts, events, and venue management. The role focuses on modernising services, strengthening governance and systems, and delivering strong community outcomes across a diverse and high‐profile portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Lead organisational change and ensure services operate to contemporary local government standards.
- Develop and implement the Council's Arts and Culture Strategy, embedding it into operational planning and decision‐making.
- Drive continuous improvement of services, governance, and team capability.
- Build trusted relationships with stakeholders and maintain effective communication in a public‐facing environment.
- Oversee the financial management of the portfolio, ensuring sound commercial acumen and accountability.
- Prioritise safety, compliance and professional standards across all activities.
Qualifications
- Evidence of senior leadership experience in a complex, public‐sector or cultural organisation.
- Strong track record of driving organisational improvement and change.
- Experience in governance, strategy implementation and service delivery.
- Financial and commercial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
- Excellent communication, influence and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Commitment to safety, compliance, and accountability.
- Desire to deliver sustainable, community‐focused services and contribute to a vibrant, liveable city.
