We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, offering ambulatory, inpatient, and home and community-based services. The Alfred Hospital's Department of Intensive Care is a state-of-the-art 65-bed unit that treats over 3,500 patients annually. The ICU provides Victorian state services for heart and lung transplantation (including pediatric lung transplantation), short- and long-term mechanical circulatory support (MCS) such as ECMO and Impella, burns, and hyperbaric medicine. It is one of two centers offering state services for adult trauma, HIV, and bone marrow transplantation, with a diverse case-mix reflecting its status as a quaternary referral center.
