Nature Recovery is at the heart of our work. Join us in the North East Area's Fisheries, Geomorphology and Biodiversity team to lead our thinking on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) as well as a range of other priority topics.
You will:
•Work closely with colleagues to identify Biodiversity Net Gain opportunities within our capital programmes and create strong links with national networks to allow for strategic learning and improvements across the organisation.
•Provide technical leadership and support, for biodiversity officers within the team as well as to other teams, on issues such as environmental regulation and asset management.
•Enable habitat creation opportunities through your technical input and influencing.
Building strong relationships in and outside of the team, as well as with external stakeholder and partners will be key, alongside side your ability to prioritise conflicting demands.
You will have:
•A detailed understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain and how to apply it.
•Considerable knowledge and experience of conservation principles and legislation.
•Experience of delivering river restoration or habitat creation projects.
•A good understanding of protected habitats and species, as well as the Water Framework Directive
•Good IT skills in word, excel, GIS and database management.

You will be asked to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. The team
You will join a supportive team of Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology experts, with wide ranging knowledge and experience. We have a hybrid work pattern with the team spending time in the office, at home and out on site.
There are also national networks for Biodiversity Technical Leaders and Biodiversity Net Gain advisors that you will be part of.

Experience/skills required
You will be qualified to at least degree level in a relevant technical discipline and be able to demonstrate your ecology expertise at interview. You will have a working knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain as well as other key environmental legislation.

•a team player who enjoys collaborating and building strong relationships with internal teams and external partners.
•a problem solver who is well-organised and has the confidence to work independently on their own initiative.
A UK drivers licence is essential.
