Construction Lawyer (FE) - 6+ month contract
Our client is a respected and long-established national construction and property group, known for delivering complex and high-profile projects across the commercial, health, education, infrastructure, and residential sectors.
As the business undertakes several major developments across Australia, there is now an opportunity for an experienced Construction Lawyer to join their in-house legal function.
Reporting to the General Counsel, you will provide expert legal and contractual support across a range of construction matters. This includes front-end contract drafting and negotiation, as well as strategic input on project delivery and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide legal advice on front-end construction matters, including head contracts, subcontracts, consultant agreements, and procurement documents.
* Draft, review, and negotiate standard form and bespoke construction contracts.
* Advise on tender processes and contract finalisation for major developments and infrastructure projects.
* Support project teams on contract administration, risk management, variations, and compliance matters.
* Liaise with internal stakeholders including Commercial, Project Management, and Executive teams.
* Contribute to legal knowledge-sharing, internal precedents, and training initiatives.
* Provide strategic input on dispute avoidance, claims management, and where relevant, dispute resolution processes.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have:
* 7+ years PAE with a strong background in construction or projects law (front-end experience essential).
* Demonstrated experience in advising on large-scale building or infrastructure projects.
* In-house experience (either permanent or secondment) is highly regarded.
* Familiarity with construction industry standards, contract forms, and regulatory requirements.
* Strong commercial acumen and ability to align legal advice with business objectives.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
