Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Officer to join our team. This newly created role will bring ownership and discipline to purchasing across the business. You will play a key part in streamlining and standardising processes, ensuring data accuracy, reducing duplication, and negotiating effectively with suppliers to deliver reliable, cost-effective supply of materials and consumables.

This is an opportunity to help shape a modern purchasing function and make a measurable impact. Within 6–12 months, success will mean consistent purchasing processes, accurate data in our systems, clear accountability for purchasing, and cost savings that support Finance and Operations in achieving their goals.

What you bring

Proven experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment.

Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners.

A proactive approach to problem-solving and supplier relationship management.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others for best outcomes.

Negotiation skills with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Proficiency in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience in manufacturing environments and familiarity with Power BI desirable.

What you'll be doing

- Work closely with internal stakeholders to align purchasing with operational needs.
- Raise and manage purchase orders for raw materials, consumables, tooling, PPE, and services to support production.
- Receipt goods into the system in a timely manner and ensure accurate, traceable data capture.
- Maintain supplier and parts databases, supporting data clean-up and system accuracy in line with aerospace and defence requirements.
- Forecast lead times and communicate potential delays early to minimise impact on production schedules.
- Source and evaluate suppliers to achieve value for money, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Monitor supplier and inventory performance (quality, delivery, cost, accuracy) and escalate issues where required.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to optimise cost and minimise supply risk.
- Ensure supplier compliance with standards including ISO, AS9100, ITAR, ESG, and modern slavery obligations.
- Support the development and rollout of improved purchasing policies, procedures, and reporting.
- Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, quality certifications, and legal obligations.
