THE OPPORTUNITY
This role will suit a postdoctoral fellow with training and/or experience in both immunology/cell biology and advanced computational techniques. Applicants ranging from new PhD graduates to experienced fellows are encouraged to apply. The fellow will become a member of Garvan's large community of immunologists and computational biologists.
The postdoctoral fellow is accountable for conducting research independently and collaboratively within the Swarbrick laboratory, with strategic guidance and mentoring from Professor Swarbrick.
The fellow will work across two projects:
- Analysing a Phase II trial of metastatic melanomas undergoing checkpoint immunotherapy to identify predictors of response and novel treatments for unresponsive agents- Examining the role for B lymphocytes in solid cancers
Both projects involve a substantial dry lab component and the generation and analysis of single-cell and spatial transcriptomic data.
**Salary**: Up to $103,000 + 14% super + salary packaging

WHAT YOU WILL DO
RESEARCH OFFICER - LEVEL 1
Performs under guidance
An RO1 would conduct original research under limited supervision, and be required to make contributions in more than one of the following areas:
- Completion of research projects in an efficient and timely manner, with outcomes published under joint authorship in peer-reviewed journals- Contribution to team and Garvan research projects- Presentation of original research at national/ international scientific conferences, and as invited to seminars locally and/or nationally- Co-supervision and mentoring of students and junior research staff- Provision of supervisory assistance in preparation of research grant proposals, including contribution of data- Contribution to improvements in techniques, quantitative methods and quality control
RESEARCH OFFICER - LEVEL 2
Performs under less guidance
An RO2 would normally have worked for at least one year as an RO1 (or equivalent), and meet many of the above criteria for RO1 at an increased level of performance.
_In addition_, an RO2 would make contributions to some of the following areas:
- Demonstrated participation in administrative duties of the research group, e.g. oversight of day-to-day lab activities- Played an increasing role in the development of research projects and collaborations- Participated in Garvan's organisation and management, via committee membership involvement in training and mentoring, journal clubs etc.- Participated in professional activities as a member of scientific societies- Participated in communication of science to the public, via public seminars and media interviews
RESEARCH OFFICER - LEVEL 3
Performs with limited guidance
An RO3 would normally have worked for at least one year at RO2 (or equivalent), and meet most of the above criteria for RO2 at an increased level of performance.
_In addition_, an RO3 would make contributions to some of the following areas:
- Played a significant role in the development of research projects and collaborations- Demonstrated prudential management of grant funds received-
- Been involved in the recruitment of research assistants and students
SENIOR RESEARCH OFFICER - LEVEL 1
The Senior Research Officer will be making significant contributions in the following areas:
- Research Excellence_- Successful leadership of research projects resulting in first
- or co-last authorship of published articles- Contribution to productive research outcomes in team and collaborative projects- National or international recognition by invited seminar presentations and oral/poster presentations at national and international meetings- Role as a named Investigator on research proposal submissions to external funding bodies
