The program
The Townsville Accommodation Centre provides a welcoming home away from home for people travelling from rural and remote areas to receive medical treatment at the Townsville Hospital.
The Centre reflects the Red Cross wellbeing model, emphasizing openness, welcome, and homeliness, mirroring health and recovery.
The opportunity
This role requires a love of the outdoors and gardening, as you will perform various gardening activities.
Planning and organizational skills are essential for maintaining gardening schedules and equipment for future use.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Liaise with other volunteers and community members
Contribute to events or activities at the centre
Clean and maintain gardening equipment
Provide meet and greet services to guests where required
Perform gardening activities such as planting, watering, weeding, composting, mulching, and maintaining garden beds
Gurney walkways and pathways
General tidying and moving items in storage areas
Participate in team meetings as needed
Red Cross will provide training, ongoing support, and access to other opportunities within its humanitarian network.
The impact
As a volunteer, you will help those traveling for medical treatment feel at home and support their recovery through listening, empathizing, and friendly interaction.
You will learn from diverse individuals and experience the satisfaction of giving back.
Application Requirements
Undergo a National Police Check organized through Red Cross
Provide details for two professional references
Hold or apply for a Working With Children or Vulnerable People Check, depending on your location (Red Cross can assist with this)
