Join us to deliver services that support and improve the health of Western Australians.
The Department of Health is responsible for the strategic direction, oversight and management of the WA health system, operating at arm’s length from health service delivery. We operate in a corporate environment, and do not deliver front line health services to the community.
At the Department of Health, our mission is to lead and steward the WA health system, made up of eight independent Health Services Providers. Covering million square kilometres, our 50,000-strong workforce delivers health services across the largest health authority in the world.
We are a values driven organisation that is proudly working together for a healthier Western Australia.
Your new role:
We are seeking enthusiastic people to fill two Senior Metadata Officer vacancies.
There are two vacancies available for immediate filling, one part-time ( FTE) and one full-time. Both vacancies are fixed term to 30 June 2026 with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.
This is an evolving role in a newly formed team. You will contribute to increasing the information management maturity of the WA health system by supporting the metadata work program, which includes the development and implementation of a metadata repository, core standards and reference data, and a metadata policy.
What are we looking for?
Our ideal candidate will have experience in the development and management of metadata and/or technical documentation in a complex environment, project management and well-developed interpersonal skills.
The Senior Metadata Officer positions are available in the newly formed Metadata and Data Development team. The Metadata and Data Development team has two streams: the existing metadata function, and the new data development function. The Senior Metadata Officers will work with both business and technical teams to support the delivery of the Metadata and Data Development work program, including providing expert advice on metadata to stakeholders across the WA health system; working with both existing data programs and the team supporting the new enterprise data platform to develop metadata infrastructure and processes; supporting the development of new real-time data collections to enable systemwide visibility of hospital capacity and demand; development and maintenance of central master data and reference lists; and support for metadata governance processes, including development and/or review of standards.
As metadata is important for all data collections, the Senior Metadata Officers will be exposed to a wide variety of health data and initiatives.
The Metadata and Data Development team is advertising several other positions in addition to this one. Please see for an overview of the relevant positions, noting that each position will require a separate application.
We care about you!
We offer a purpose driven environment conveniently located in East Perth. Our employees enjoy a range of benefits which include:
1. Flexible working arrangements, work from home arrangements genuinely considered to create healthy work life balance
2. Professional development opportunities and study leave/assistance
3. Generous salary packaging options.
4. Public Service Holidays
5. Wherefit Membership – great value deals across an extensive choice of wellbeing benefits across Perth
6. Modern end of trip facilities/changerooms
7. Claisebrook train station within 5-minute walk; Yellow Cat service to the building entrance, public transport buses close by. A short walk to the bustling Royal Street the café strip. Next to the recently redeveloped Moort-ak Waadiny, Wellington Park.
Diverse and Inclusive workforce
The Department of Health embraces diversity and believes the best results come when varied viewpoints are welcomed and encouraged every day. We encourage gender diversity, Aboriginal people, young people, people with disability, and people from culturally diverse backgrounds to join us. Please indicate on your application if you fall into one of these diversity groups.
