The Office of the Independent Assessor (OIA) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assessment Officer to join our dynamic team in Brisbane. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the integrity of Queensland's local government sector while working in a supportive and professional environment.

The OIA is a statutory authority responsible for the initial assessment of all complaints about councillor conduct in Queensland. It also investigates and prosecutes allegations of misconduct by councillors where appropriate. We operate with transparency, balance, and a strong focus on building capacity within the local government sector. Its primary focus is to enhance the integrity of the local government system.

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a skilled individual to join our high performing team as an Assessment Officer. In this critical role, you will assess complaints, analyse complex information, and provide well-informed recommendations to support decision-making and uphold the integrity of local government.

The Role

As an Assessment Officer, you will:


• Assess complaints about councillor conduct in accordance with legislative requirements.


• Undertake detailed analysis and provide recommendations on complex matters.


• Liaise with stakeholders, including local councils and the public, to ensure transparency and fairness.


• Draft detailed and accurate written correspondence to external parties.


• Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes within the OIA.


• Model professional and ethical behaviour in line with the Queensland Public Service Code of Conduct.

About You

We are looking for a results-driven person who:


• Has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex information critically.


• Communicates clearly, succinctly, and professionally across a range of audiences.


• Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.


• Has knowledge or experience in administrative law, local government, or assessments (or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge).
