Senior Finance Manager / Financial Controller (Hands‐On, Pathway to CFO)
Senior Finance Manager / Financial Controller (Hands‐On, Pathway to CFO)Tomorrow Homes – High‐Growth, Tech‐Driven Residential Builder
Tomorrow Homes is a fast‐growing residential construction company delivering design‐led homes across Victoria. We're serious about technology, data and systems, and we're now hiring a hands‐on Senior Finance Manager / Financial Controller as our first dedicated finance lead.
This is a player‐coach role: you will both do the work and build the function. You'll report directly to the Directors and own all core finance activities while designing the systems and controls that will let us scale. As the business grows, this role is designed to evolve into Financial Controller / CFO and build a small team under you.
Why this role
Direct access to founders; real influence on strategy, margins and growth
Tech‐driven environment with significant automation already in place
Clear path to build the finance team and step into a formal CFO role over time
What you'll be doing (next 12–24 months)
Own the end‐to‐end finance function: GL, month‐end, management reporting, statutory reporting and internal controls
Prepare monthly management accounts, board packs and analysis for Directors / shareholders
Lead budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management to support project delivery and growth
Drive project and job‐level reporting: WIP, job costing, margin analysis and profitability by project / segment
Take ownership of day‐to‐day AP/AR oversight: review automated runs, handle exceptions, maintain clean ledgers and strong controls
Personally run month‐end close (journals, reconciliations, WIP, revenue recognition) while we build towards a larger team
Improve and automate financial systems, processes and reporting, working closely with our tech stack and advisors
Manage ATO and statutory lodgements (BAS, payroll tax, super, other compliance)
Own relationships with external tax/accounting, banking and insurance partners
Over time, hire and develop junior finance staff as the volume justifies it
About you
Experience as a Senior Accountant, Finance Manager or small‐business Financial Controller, ideally in construction, property or other project‐based environments
Strong technical accounting skills and comfort owning end‐to‐end finance
Demonstrated ability to improve systems, processes, controls and reporting (Xero and construction/project tools highly regarded)
Happy to be hands‐on: you're comfortable doing AP/AR oversight, reconciliations and month‐end yourself while the function scales
Commercially minded: able to translate numbers into clear, actionable insights for project and operational teams
Thrive in entrepreneurial, growing businesses where you own outcomes, not just tasks
Ambitious, proactive and keen to grow into a senior leadership / future CFO role
How to apply
If you want to own the finance function, build the systems from the ground up and grow with a modern, tech‐driven builder, please apply with your CV and a brief note outlining your construction / project experience and one specific example where you improved a finance process and the impact it had.
