Why this role matters

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia's largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

About the role

As a Duty Social Worker, this is your opportunity to provide accessible and compassionate frontline care within social work team at Access Health. You will be the first point of contact for people who are marginalised, using substances, working in street-based sex work and/or experiencing homelessness. You will play a central role in triage, assessment and coordinating care for a highly vulnerable cohort. The Duty Social Worker will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver responsive primary health care to achieve the best possible outcomes for people using the service.

Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator and Program Manager, this is a permanent part-time role offering 30.4 hours, located in St Kilda, VIC.

How you will make an impact

* Provide a safe and nurturing environment that is upheld by a harm reduction and trauma informed lens under the social model of health.
* Respond and support people presenting in crisis and/or with complex needs.
* Maintain accurate records, complete medical reception tasks and communicate information to the clinical team.
* Contribute to team meetings, communicate professionally with stakeholders and lead identified portfolios such as co-facilitating drop-in groups.

What you will bring

* A Bachelor's degree in social work, social services or similar.
* Relevant experience in a social service environment preferably the health, AOD, homelessness and/or mental health sector.
* A current VIC Drivers Licence and employee Working with Children's Check
