The Role in a Nutshell General Manager role with a genuine growth pathway. You start across two properties and as trust builds the full portfolio is yours. The owners will share the financials with you from day one and capital is available for the right ideas. You will be working in a small tight team with a flat structure which means no layers, no politics and no waiting for someone above you to make a call. It also means you need to be someone who thrives in that environment, rolls up their sleeves and adds value at every level of the operation. The Low Hanging Fruit There are some clear early wins available to the right person coming in. A functions and events space that is beautiful and underbooked. A bar that is not yet open to the public but sits in a property with strong foot traffic. A rooms revenue strategy that has been running on instinct rather than data. These are not complex problems. They are problems that need someone who has solved them before and knows exactly what to do. You Will Love This If You You have worked in a small independent operation before and the flat structure suited you rather than frustrated you. You liked being close to the work, knowing every corner of the building and every person in it. You did not need a layer above you to feel legitimate and you did not need a large team below you to feel like you were doing something. You are proven at activating things and not just in theory. A space that was sitting idle that you turned into something people actually use. A functions programme that did not exist until you built it. A bar or dining room that started performing because you changed how it was positioned and then ran it yourself. When someone asks what you are proud of professionally you talk about specific results not strategy documents. Ideally you have worked for an owner before, someone who built the place themselves and is in the building more than most of the staff. You know that relationship takes time and you were never in a hurry to rush it. Once you have that trust there is real latitude and you know how to earn it by doing the work and bringing people along rather than announcing yourself. You want to get into a business that is already performing and find the parts that have more in them and go after those. What You Bring Proven track record across rooms, F&B and functions in an independent or boutique property. Financially literate and comfortable presenting a business case for investment.
